Road 42 trail report
On Saturday, January 15th, Bob lead a trip which he had organized along Forest Road 42. Road 42 more or less parallels the Verde river and in general covers the distance between Bartlett Lake and the Horseshoe Dam road east of the towns of Carefree and Cave Creek.

Sandy washes, lots of rutted hills and good company made for a fun day running the coves at Saguaro Lake. The weather was slightly overcast and springtime cool as Matt Hannen(D-90), Bob Kolander(D-90), Pat Gallagher(Disco), and Keith Stephens(RR Classic) headed north on highway 87.

Exploration
Starting out at 8 a.m. on a typically beautiful Arizona morning, our group departed from the staging area located just off the intersection of Cave Creek Road and the Bartlett Dam Road. From there, is was off to a fun and somewhat steep hill climb. Those that decided to tackle the hill were able to enjoy a great view down the valley towards phoenix. The descent is an exciting endeavor, as you go off the plateau blind, and it takes a good half-truck length's descent before you can see the trail you need to follow.

Great Scenery and Good Company
The Adventure
I had traveled this trail last March with Bob Kolander, Pat Gallagher and Matt Hannan. It seemed to me then that this would be a good, close in trip on which to take others. I was surprised that I had not discovered these trails sooner. If you enjoy hills this is a great trip only minutes from Phoenix/Scottsdale.

The Adventure
The Adventure We met at the Circle K on Reddington Road, and of course I was late by 20 or so minutes and NO ONE let me forget it! We had three Discoveries, One D90 and an 88 Series II. Last year, if you remember, we planned this outing for 01/01/00! Doomsday. We had pretty much the same formula, a Series I p/u, a D90 and a few Discoveries. That New YearŐs Day, we were to have a short, fun, ride in and out and meet at Matt and Debbie's, (Series P/U) for a barbeque. The day was long as we broke SeriesŐ spring hangers, I slid in to a large rock on the right side of the Disco, and the D90 rolled on it's side! I was apprehensive to start out with almost the same formula.
