Scenic, steep trip to the observatory
Jon Christensen, Ted and Marilyn Moyer and myself made the trip. It was a very scenic and enjoyable drive going through Wickenburg. The weather could not have been better. It took about an hour to drive up to the top. The trail road was in good shape with no real obstacles, however low range was needed along the last half of the trip up to the top due to the steepness of the road. The observatory on top had some interesting writeups in the area. The views from the peak were great and we spent about an hour on top. Jon took a number of photos as always and hopefully he will be able to put them on the website. The return trip was fairly short by traveling south to I-10. Total time from Wickenburg to I-10 was about 4 hours.

Cool and Overcast - A Perfect Day for Wheeling in the Desert... Or Was It?
On Saturday, January 31, an eager contingent of Phoenix members (Azim, Leo, Armando, John Christensen, John Pearson and guest Dan, and Ziad and guest Halley) ran the New River Canyon and Maggie May trails in the Tonto National Forest northeast of New River. We had a stock Discovery Series II, a number of Discovery's (Series I and II) with various modifications, and a heavily modified Defender. The day was cool and overcast. A perfect day for wheeling in the desert. Or was it?

A Great Traverse
There's little more awe inspiring than to see a caravan of Land Rovers crossing a stream on a mission. We seemed to capture the attention of many, especially among the numerous boys camping with Dads and families at the start of the trail. Perhaps they are like me whenever I would see a Land Rover roll by; I would gaze starry eyed dreaming of distant adventures, safaris and expeditions for which these vehicles excel, picturing myself behind the wheel. WOW - Now I am and loving every revolution of the wheels, even if on a much smaller scale.

Four Rovers on Reno
The trail was maybe a little more difficult than I remembered it, but it was well within the capabilities of all of the trucks and drivers who came along. The weather was only a few degrees above perfect, not bad at all. I think that the rains had washed out the roads a bit more, and the vegetation was a little thicker than last time. Everybody got some new desert pinstripes. All that led to an interesting and challenging trip.

Ajax Trail Run
Jon Christensen (Disco), Mike McDonald (Disco), and myself (D90) were anxious to run this trail since it was new to all of us and we had heard how tough it could be. We met at the Mineral Mountain Road off of Highway 60 on a cool Saturday morning following some good rainfall the past week.

Dealer Trip Report
Mark led a group of about a dozen trucks on a dealer trip through Bulldog Canyon. There was a mix of Series I and Series II Discos and one Freelander. There were several new faces on the trip which was good to see. This easy to moderate trail was enjoyed by all. It was a beautiful day to be out on the trail.

Great Turnout for Nite Run
We had a great turnout for this moderate trail nite run. Special thanks to Ted and Marilyn Moyer for inviting us over for dinner and socializing prior to heading out to the meeting place. We were fortunate to have 2 new LR3's join us which were driven by company sponsored drivers.

Weekend Trip to Kingman, AZ
Ted and Marilyn Moyer in their Discovery joined Hilary and me in Kingman to enjoy some weekend trail runs. We both got a late start leaving Phoenix Friday evening and arrived around 9 pm to find out that the hotel did not have my reservation. Luckily there was room and we were hoping that this was not a sign of things to come. The area was still recovering from recent heavy rains so most of the ground was still wet and there was little worry about having to deal with a lot of dust.
