Event Description

This event requires at least three attendees to make it a go.

We will meet at the Chevron by the Cinder Hills at 5pm Friday evening.

Chevron
11230 US-89
Flagstaff, AZ 86004

From here, we will migrate into the OHV Park to camp. For those who come later, we will take 776, to the left, rather than 777. I will send an APRS beacon at our camp site - KE7CDJ. You can use APRS, if you do not have an APRS rig. You can also just look for the cluster of Rovers and the AZLRO flag.

Saturday morning we’ll explore the hills. Bring your recovery gear! The cinders are very soft, and you can anticipate getting stuck or nearly stuck at least once. There’s lots to explore there, we’ll try to hit it all. Lunch might as well be back at camp, since we won’t ever be too far from “home” and our camp site will be in the approximate middle of the OHV Park.

Dinner will be back at camp too, though it will be cold camping (no camp fires are allowed in Flagstaff right now. On that note, your camp stove must be on a table, and smoking outside and shooting is not currently allowed.)

The event will officially end Saturday night. I will stay the night, but Sunday morning you are welcome to leave when ever you are ready. Father’s Day will be “on your own.”

Please register both online and email me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) your contact information once you have registered. We will make the call of go/no go Wednesday night before the event.

Looking forward to it!

Venue Description

The Cinder Hills is a scenic recreation area enjoyed by many off-highway vehicle enthusiasts. Its numerous volcanic cinder cones and craters surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest environment gives the area its unique value. Due to a growing interest in this area for off-highway vehicle recreation, additional management direction is needed to protect sensitive resources and to provide for continuing use of this recreation.

Approximately 13,500 acres in the Cinder Hills has been designated for off-highway vehicle recreation. Management emphasis is for the use of 2-, 3-, and 4-wheel vehicles.
