Box Canyon
Date:
Saturday December 15th, 2018 08:00 AM
Where:
Florence Junction, Arizona
Category:
Trail Runs (Official)
Trail Leader:
Rob Woodward

Event Description

We are going to run the trail North-South, starting from the 60 at Mineral Mountain Road. When out of the river beds, exposed rock in this region have sharp edges and I expect we’ll see a lot of exposed rock based on what I ran into when I pre-ran a different route into the area. Make sure your tires are up to snuff and tire repair kits are up to date. A full size spare is highly recommended.

Weather forecast looks to be beautiful; high 60s to low 70s. Grab the family, pack lunch and a bunch of water, sunscreen, and come on out.

We’ve got a large group for this trail, so we need to get started a bit earlier.

Meet: 8:00am at Chevron at SE corner 60 and Goldfield.
Leave: 8:30 sharp

Secondary Meet: If desired for those joining us from Tucson, we can pick you up at Florence Junction (60 & 79) at about 9am.

Communications:
HAM: 146.480
FRS: Channel 7, no security

Again, because of the number of trucks, expect to be out all day. Depending on what we discover on the trail and the traffic we will most likely run into in the Canyon, I’d guess we wouldn’t be off the trail before 4pm.

If you need to get hold of me, feel free to give me a call: 602.318.5164

Thanks,
Rob

Venue Description

A unique and scenic drive through a narrow, steep-walled canyon. Once in the canyon, there are several moderate-size rocks to get over. Stock SUVs with good ground clearance should be okay. It is a good idea to be spotted through the tough spots. You may bottom out occasionally but damage is unlikely. Stay off this trail if rain is expected, the canyon is extremely dangerous when flooded.
