Event Description

Meeting/Leaving from Phoenix:

Meeting Time: 7am
Departure: 7:30am

We will be meeting at the 4 Sons Gas & Car Wash on the NE corner of I-17 and Carefree Hwy. I recommend fueling up BEFORE you arrive at 4 $ons... their gas isn't cheap.

Phoenix, AZ 85086

Plan is to arrive at the Flagstaff Safeway off of the 40 & 89 around 9:30 am.

I understand we may be meeting some people either on route or near the trail. I'm still not decided on the Cinders or perhaps some other trails in the area, so whatever the group wants to do is what we'll run. I am planning on getting off the trail with enough time to get to the Overland Journal open house, which runs fro 4-6pm...

I'll have CB, FRS, and HAM... no idea on what HAM to use as I'm a novice. CB will be channel 5 unless we run into cross-talk, and we'll also go with 5.0 on the FRS to make things easy.

Venue Description

The Cinder Hills is a scenic recreation area enjoyed by many off-highway vehicle enthusiasts. Its numerous volcanic cinder cones and craters surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest environment gives the area its unique value. Due to a growing interest in this area for off-highway vehicle recreation, additional management direction is needed to protect sensitive resources and to provide for continuing use of this recreation.

Approximately 13,500 acres in the Cinder Hills has been designated for off-highway vehicle recreation. Management emphasis is for the use of 2-, 3-, and 4-wheel vehicles.

On site camping is available in dispersed areas of the recreation area, or in the nearby Bonito Campground outside of Sunset Crater Park.
