Trail Runs (Official)
Trail Leader:
John Edelmann

Event Description

Hello Organ Pipe Cactus Campers,

We will be meeting at 8:30am on Black Friday at the Chevron Station, 5139 Wild Horse Pass Blvd, Chandler AZ (near I-10 and 202). We will caravan to the outskirts of Organ National Pipe to secure wild camping sites for the weekend. Please bring something to reserve your site – A tent, tarp, etc. as we will establish camp and then hit the trail. On Friday we will explore the smaller eastern loop which meanders into the foothills on a scenic (easy) trail with sweeping vistas and intriguing rock formations. We'll have lunch on the trail and slowly make our way back to the campsite for evening festivities.

On Saturday morning, we'll fuel up and head back into Organ Pipe and explore the larger western loop.  This trail takes several hours and is slightly more adventurous than Friday's trail. This trail is the Sonoran desert at its finest. Great photo opportunities abound. Again, we'll have lunch on the trail and take in all sights that the trail has to offer. We will be completed with this trail mid-afternoon on Saturday. Some of the group will be returning to Phoenix on late Saturday. Others have the option of camping Saturday night. Your choice.

  • We will be wild camping. Please be self-sufficient. There are no pit toilets or showers. Pack it in. Pack it out.
  • Please bring enough water for 3+ days. Food for 2-3 lunches and 1-2 dinners depending on how long you are planning on staying.
  • Please bring 1-2 bundles of firewood.
  • It will get cold at night. It snowed there last year at this same time. Please bring warm clothing, lots of layers and be prepared for all types of weather.
  • This is an area known for illegal alien travel. While we will see plenty of border patrols on duty, however, you will need to be alert. Lock up your vehicles, stow needed items in your truck. Don't leave possessions unattended.
  • An entrance fee is charged for visiting Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Please bring $25 CASH as you will need it to register the vehicle and all its occupants (good for 7 days) as we enter the Park. Please note that all federal lands passes are also accepted at Organ Pipe Cactus Monument.
  • There is a gas station with a small store near the entrance of Park.
  • I will be pre-running the trails in mid-November so please visit this page again for an update.
  • We will be using Ham radios as our primary communication. 146.460 More information to come.

We are looking forward to the trip!
