Trail Runs (Official)
Trail Leader:
Pierre LeBlanc

Event Description

Meeting Location: Carl's Jr Parking Lot @ 2933 S Tomahawk Rd, Apache Junction, AZ 85119

Time: 8:00AM

Departure: 8:30AM

Comm: Ham 146.480, FRS - TBD if necessary

General: at 8:30 sharp, we'll caravan towards Superior AZ, and head south on AZ177 towards the trail head. From there we'll air down and continue down the trail. Please bring All food, water, sunscreen etc for the entire day as this will be a full day trip. Lunch on the river, bring a camp chair as we'll have a relaxing time by the river. After lunch, we'll head parallel to the river to intersect the wash that heads back up the canyon to the loop returning back to main road back.

Trail Conditions: Be advised that this trail has deteriorated over the years and while generally easy throughout 90% of it, there are a few wash out sections with possibly difficult to navigate areas. We'll do our best to minimize difficulty with proper spotting and trail maintenance. Additionally, in a couple of sections near the river bottom, the trail can disappear into the brush and contact with brush is possible. We'll try to avoid this as much as possible but paint damage / striping is likely. Stock Land Rovers should have no problem, provided proper all terrain tires are installed.

Venue Description

A photographer’s dream. Beautiful Sonoran Desert with towering red buttes on all sides of the trail. A fun drive offering real adventure.

Washouts possible and rock stacking may be required. A lovely lunch break at the river provides fun for the kids.

Beautiful Sonoran Desert with towering red buttes on all sides of the trail. A fun drive offering real adventure. Hike into the nearby White Canyon Wilderness area north of the trail. Winding, rutted road with moderate climbs and descents. Narrow in a few places. Our group drove the trail following a period of torrential rains. Several places were badly washed out, which required some rock-stacking for several stock vehicles in our group. While the road is well defined most of the way, one section crosses a low sandy area along the Gila River. Rains had washed away previous tire tracks making route-finding difficult. Skid plates and high ground clearance recommended for stock vehicles. Brush may lightly touch your vehicle. Go with other vehicles in case you need help.
