2020 Utah Traverse Adventure (CANCELLED)
DUE TO THE COVID-19 THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Join AZLRO on an amazing trek across Southern Utah, from East to West. This trip will start at Hovenweep National Monument and end near the Nevada border. This is a lengthy, but fairly easy trip across this amazing state on roughly 850 miles of dirt roads. Most nights we will be wilderness camping, with no services, but we will spend 2 nights most likely either in a hotel or a campground that offers showers.
Although there will not be a ton of requirements for this trip, I would respectively request that all attendees commit to the entire trip, or none at all. In other words, please do not sign up if you plan on leaving 3, 4, or 5 days into the trip, as it isn't fair to someone else that would like your slot. Also, it is NOT possible to join the trip a day or two into the trek, as we are not exactly sure where we will camp each night. In other words, there is not set schedule and in most areas there is no means of communications.
Although most the trip is fairly easy driving, there are a couple items that you should be aware of. There is a decent water crossing that ranges from 6 inches to 24 inches deep, depending on rainfall. There is also a steep sand hill incline, but can be bypassed if needed. There is also an area where we cross a river about 30 times, with some of the crossing with steep descents and ascents. However, none of these items are anything a stock Land Rover will have issues with.
Weather: We've experienced warm to hot temps on this trip, as well as snow in the higher elevations too. You must pack accordingly and be prepared for dusty roads, muddy roads, and snow-packed roads.
Meals: Once we have our confirmed attendees, we will pair up for shared meals. Typically this works very well and we usually eat like kings.
Roads: Traveled roads will include sandy terrain, rocky terrain, muddy terrain, and more.
Sights: This is by far the most scenic route I've ever traveled. Southern Utah offers a wide diversity of red rock scenery and highlights on the route include Alstrom Point above Lake Powell, Virgin River Valley, Burning Hills, Pink Coral Sand Dunes, and much much more.
We will wrap up the day before the Overland Expo starts and head South to Flagstaff for those who would like to stop and visit that event.
Meet up location and details for this trip will be updated as we get closer to the event.
