O’Leary Basin Trail

Details

Relatively short Easy/Moderate trail that travels through the black lava dunes that surround Sunset Crater National Monument, but outside the OHV Area. Meet on the east side of Highway 89 on FR 545, which is at the eastern edge of Sunset Crater National Monument for a 10AM departure. Allow at least 2-1/2 hours travel time from Phoenix to Flagstaff. There should be enough time to play in the OHV area for those looking for additional fun. Described in Backcountry Adventure Book, #5 Northeast Region, page 235.
